From Opinions to What God Says

Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
Proverbs 30:5

Years ago, I was invited to meet with some leaders who were divided on the issue of abortion. A priest, rabbi, pastor, and other ministry leaders were present. Half were for abortion, half against. They had already met for two years and no one had changed their viewpoint. Here’s why. As we sat in a circle, they took turns sharing their opinions. Each person began with the words, “I think”. My thought was, “Who cares what you think? What does God say?”

Rather than join in today’s argumentative monologues that consist of my opinion versus your opinion, let’s look instead to what God says. As we turn to the Bible and discover what God says about concerns that divide us, we can share the applicable Scripture with our opponents. We can then learn if our opinions agree with what God says. The question then becomes, “Who is willing to align their words and actions with God’s truth?”

Ignorance of God’s Word is taking a huge toll on America. But there is hope for this great nation if people replace the words, I think with the words, God says. When we do what the one true God says to do and avoid what He says not to do, we become the nation whose motto truly is: In God We Trust!

When facing opposition, will your initial response be I think, or God says?

Will you respond in a way that conveys your trust is in God and what He says?

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.
Psalm 19:14
