Pastors: Be One in Jesus Christ
[Jesus prayed,] “that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” (John 17:21, ESV)
Dear Pastors,
I’m writing because I believe the Holy Spirit has nudged me to humbly ask church leaders to prayerfully consider the following questions and call to action:
- Are church leaders encouraging their congregations to be one in Jesus Christ, abiding in Him so that the world may believe that God has sent Jesus?
- Are Christians known by our love for one another?
- Have congregations with like-minded fundamental beliefs about Jesus and the Bible, but of different denominations, been modeling unity?
- Are we allowing the Holy Spirit to interrupt our own individual agendas?
- Are Christians representing Jesus well when responding to people of opposing views?
This July 4th is a day to remember with much gratitude the amazing freedom God has graciously bestowed on the United States of America for the past 250 years. God has blessed America when we humbly acknowledged our need for Him. There was a reverence for God and the Bible. Today, many show little, if any, need or reverence for God. Sadly, there is more division than unity as we witness the reality of a spiritual battle between good and evil taking place.
The following call to action offers an opportunity for God’s people to admit we have been part of the problem, repent, and take action to change that.
Call to Action
Beginning July 1, 2026 through November 26, 2026 (Thanksgiving), like-minded pastors and congregations in all fifty states are encouraged to unite in these two ways:
First, commit to reaching people beyond the four walls of your church, humbly sharing these life-changing needs of all Americans:
- To turn to the Bible for truth and answers to life’s challenges.
- To know Jesus for who He truly is and to place our trust in Jesus Christ.
Are you willing to pause ministry as usual and join other congregations to focus on pointing people outside of your congregation to Jesus and the Bible?
One of the main objectives of this action plan is to inspire unity among like-minded believers. It is our mutual love, unity, and oneness in Christ that will draw people to Jesus.
To model unity and oneness, each congregation is encouraged to focus on the same topic chosen for each of the five months. For example:
- July – The Bible is a trustworthy source of truth.
- August – Who Jesus is, and how to have eternal life.
- September – End the deceiving of our youth through sex education.
- October – Represent Jesus well when speaking to people of opposing views.
- November – Experience peace and joy instead of anxiety and depression.
Secondly, commit to faithfully pray for:
- Christians to humble ourselves, repent of being comfortable Christians, and become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
- God’s children to become one in Christ, with a focus on Jesus’ two primary interests: the salvation of the lost and the sanctification of the redeemed.
- Faithful commitment by all congregations that participate in this call to action.
- People who don’t know Jesus to come to know Him for who He truly is.
- People who are unacquainted with biblical truth to hear what the Bible says about the issues and concerns of our day.
This call to action is not to be done in any kind of self-righteous, judgmental way. It is not done with the motive of acquiring new members, though you may get some. It is done by extending grace, without compromising truth. It is done out of love for God and love for people. It is done to help people know Jesus and how much He loves them. It is done to encourage people to read the Bible because it’s the most reliable source of truth for finding purpose in this life and being prepared for the next. It is done to replace unwise opinions with the truth of what God says in the Bible about social, political, religious, and everyday concerns. This requires a return to civil, honest, God-honoring conversation.
Why participate? Because America is in need of TRUTH spoken in LOVE. As you know, Jesus is the TRUTH who sets people free. And the Bible is the trustworthy source of TRUTH for discovering the peace, joy, and purpose we all long for!
What can happen if enough pastors and congregations unite to lovingly share the Bible and Jesus with people who don’t yet know Him? We can be the salt that gives people a thirst to know Jesus and the light that replaces darkness throughout America.
For this call to action to be effective, it requires a faithful commitment to putting this vision into practice.
Who Can Participate?
Anyone of any denomination who agrees with the following statements:
- The Bible is the infallible living Word of God inspired by the Holy Spirit.
- The Bible is the source of truth that makes it possible to know the only true God and His Son, Jesus Christ.
- The Bible is a gift from God to teach us how to live on earth and how to have eternal life.
- The Bible teaches us to extend grace without compromising truth.
- The Trinity is comprised of one God in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
- Jesus Christ is the Son of God, born of the Virgin Mary.
- Jesus came to earth as a man to suffer and die so sinners could be saved from God’s wrath, forgiven of our sins, reconciled to God, and have eternal life.
- Jesus is the only Savior of the world.
- Jesus Christ is King of Kings and Lord of Lords, but Savior of only those who repent and place their faith in Jesus Christ.
- Jesus was crucified, died, buried, rose from the dead, ascended into heaven.
- Jesus is alive and sitting at the right hand of God, the Father.
- Jesus will return to judge the living and the dead. He will come as the Bridegroom for His bride, all who have placed their faith in Him.
- People are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
- To become a child of God, one must receive Jesus by faith and believe in His name.
To participate, pastors must be united in agreement with all the above truths. There must be unity, without divisiveness. By your participation, you acknowledge such agreement.
How Can I Participate?
After praying, if the Holy Spirit leads you to participate, please contact us here with the following information: your name, email and phone. Include your role/position and the name, location and contact information for the church where you currently serve.
We plan to keep a list of all pastors and congregations that are participating in each state. If you would be willing to keep that list for your state, please indicate that in your contact to us. We would like to identify one such volunteer in each of the fifty states.
Your ideas and questions are welcome. My email and phone number are available below.
Please join us in praying for the Holy Spirit to use this exhortation to touch lives in ways that bear much fruit for God’s glory.
